Foo Fighters é uma banda de rock alternativo dos Estados Unidos formada por Dave Grohl em 1995. Seu nome é uma referência ao termo "foo fighter", usado por aviadores na Segunda Guerra Mundial para descrever fenômenos aéreos misteriosos, considerados OVNIs. A banda atingiu sucesso internacional, lançando vários hits incluindo "This Is a Call", "Everlong", "Learn to Fly", "All My Life", "Times Like These", "Best of You", "DOA" e "The Pretender". Três de seus álbuns, There Is Nothing Left to Lose, One by One e Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace ganharam o Grammy por "melhor álbum de rock".

ResponderExcluirDave Grohl passou quatro anos como baterista da banda grunge Nirvana. Nesse período desenvolveu uma série de composições não divulgadas, uma forma de preservar a interação do grupo. Em contrapartida Dave gravou algumas demos em estúdio, sendo que algumas canções foram compiladas no álbum Pocketwatch, lançado com o pseudônimo "Late!", em 1992.
Após a morte de Kurt Cobain em 1994, Grohl entrou no Robert Lang's Studio em Seattle com o amigo e produtor musical Barrett Jones. Com exceção da parte de guitarra de "X-Static" por Greg Dulli do grupo americano Afghan Whigs, Grohl tocou todos os instrumentos das faixas. Atrelado à gravadora Capitol Records pelo descobridor de talentos Gary Gersh (que havia trabalhado com o Nirvana), Grohl teve suas faixas mixadas, sendo que o resultado tornou-se posteriormente o primeiro álbum do Foo Fighters, também intitulado Foo Fighters.
Concerto acústico, 2006
Grohl não queria que a banda fosse um projeto de estúdio de somente um integrante, então trabalhou para formar uma banda de suporte ao álbum. Inicialmente o antigo colega Krist Novoselic era o principal candidato, mas ambos preocuparam-se que poderia-se estar formando somente uma reencarnação no Nirvana. Após tomar conhecimento sobre o fim da banda conterrânea de emocore Sunny Day Real Estate, Grohl convidou o baixista Nate Mendel e o baterista William Goldsmith. Pat Smear, que era um membro não oficial do Nirvana após o lançamento de In Utero, foi adicionado como segundo guitarrista, completando assim a banda. A banda realizou sua primeira turnê ainda em 1995 abrindo concertos para Mike Watt.
Seu primeiro single "This Is a Call" foi lançado em junho de 1995, e o álbum de estréia no mês seguinte. "I'll Stick Around" e "Big Me" foram os singles lançados nos meses seguintes.
- Próximo álbum e o futuro (2010–presente)
ResponderExcluirA banda prevê começar a gravação de seu sétimo álbum de estúdio em setembro de 2010. Dave Grohl disse em uma entrevista a revista Rolling Stone que este deve ser gravado em sua garagem e deverá ser mais barulhento do que os últimos lançamentos. O álbum foi chamado de Frontline Noise e irá contar com dez faixas com rock elétrico e uma faixa acústica. Butch Vig será o produtor, depois de ter produzido as últimas duas faixas do último álbum Greatest Hits.
